I just wanted to be the first to reply to the news that the 2008 Republican National Convention has named Google its Official Innovation Provider with an appropriate image.

Whatever happened to “Do No Evil”???

Addendum: I appear to have dropped an inadvertent googlebomb – or gopglebomb… I was #1 Google result for “gopgle” less than 15 minutes after I posted this. Google must really love me. But if they did, don’t you think they’d serve some AdSense ads here that… well, made sense? But then, this new “Spottt” link exchange service is making Google’s ads look good by comparison. It’s a good thing I’m not dependent on ad revenue for a living…

I’ve mentioned before that one of my web-based guilty pleasures is the Fark Photoshop Contests. While Worth1000 and other outlets may show off Photoshop artwork that is more skillful, beautiful and certainly tasteful, the photomanipulations by the ‘Farkers’ are just plain funny (7 times out of 10, and that’s a good batting average for the web). The running jokes (or Farklichés) just make it all sillier, and everything doesn’t have to be perfect… which encouraged me to try my hand at Fark Photoshopping myself – could it have been a whole year ago? – and actually won once with a rather obvious joke.

Anyway, a competition held just today tempted me to haul out my Gimp (that sounds awful if you don’t know Gimp is an open source image manipulator that is in competition with Photoshop), but by the time I did, all the good ideas were taken. The contest theme was simple: apply this “REJECTED” stamp to something. But to the collective Fark-shoppers, that was too easy, and the array of alternate stamped messages was awesome…

Starting with the obvious EJECTED and DEJECTED
leading to DETECTED,
RESPECTED,
REFLECTED,
DEFLECTED,
ERECTED,
INJECTED
SELECTED (naturally),
INSPECTED,
INFLECTED (a Farkliché),
BISECTED,
GENUFLECTED
DISSECTED
RESURRECTED,
DELETED,
REFRACTED,
REDACTED,
REENACTED,
RUSTED,
OBJECTION,
RED JET (well, it is!),
and my personal favorite: ERECT JED (skillfully done image supporting a perfectly punny anagram).

The winner of the contest was this cornucopia of stamps, inspired by the long haired hippie freak in the picture you may or may not recognize as Arlo Guthrie.

Another one of those silly but not uncommon stories made the rounds about a Chinese tattoo that did NOT say what the wearer thought it did, but the Internet Authority on Such Things responded “The phrase “supermarket” is ???? or abbreviated to ?? in Chinese. I have no idea how and why ??? was interpreted as “supermarket” in the news clips.” (Let me know if the characters don’t appear for you). So, just another News Screw-Up (I’m thinking of getting that phrase trademarked – it could be quite valuable).

But I also thought long and hard about an incident in my own life, and now I’ve come to realize that my Ex may not have been having an affair with a guy named Ralph after all.

(cross posted at MetaFilter)

Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert and Conan O’Brien over Mike Huckabee (which is so much more fun than
Jimmy Kimmel fighting Matt Damon over Sarah Silverman).

Yeah, fake fight, especially knowing Conan and Colbert are united against bears.

Besides, we all know Chuck Norris MADE Huckabee, and Norris could roundhouse kick the asses of O’Brien, Stewart, Colbert, Letterman, Leno, Ferguson, Ellen, Martha, Rachael, Regis, Kelly, Maury, Montel, Springer, Judge Judy, O’Reily, Olbermann, Hannity, Colmes and all the ‘Ladies’ of “The View” all at the same time with both hands and one leg tied behind his back. Oprah? A tossup.

And if a vote for Huckabee is a vote for McCain, is watching Craig Ferguson a vote for Ron Paul?
